Welcome to “The Good, The Dad, and The Ugly”, a new parenting and adoption blog. My name is Matt. My wife, Ayanna, and I have lived in the Washington, D.C. area since 2012, when we moved from New Hampshire, so that we could earn and save enough money as teachers to be able to adopt. After more than two years of waiting (more on that in future posts), Guerrin arrived on July 22, 2016. Ayanna is taking this first year off while I keep teaching; next year, we switch. We got married in 2008 and this is our first child.
The reason I wanted to start a blog about parenting and adoption is because I have a lot to say about being an adoptive parent, and I’m betting there are folks out there who’ll listen to (read) what’s banging around in my brain on this topic, or who have questions about the process and want straightforward answers from someone who has been through it. And I promise I won’t sound like the literature agencies give you that don’t really answer any questions. All posts will come from the heart, which is to say, they won’t be recycled research articles with my “spin” on them. Again, I have strong opinions, and you’ve just stepped in range of my soapbox. Get ready!
